When it comes to interior design and product styling.... look no further! We were super lucky to have a chat with Em Pearmann, who shares her love for monochrome and natural textures in all her interior styling shots. If you need advice on colours, design or even placement, Em is the go to!
In this interview, Em shares with us how she fell into styling, and interior design as well as starting her own new build! We loved how Em styled her Jonquil sheets in a dramatic monochrome display of rich textures and her gorgeous Walter ;)
Could you tell us more about your background?
I live in Perth WA with my husband Adam, our 9-year daughter, Ava and our two cats, Walter & Wong. I am a Hairdresser by trade but finished up working when Ava was born. When Ava started school I decided to redecorate our entire home and became somewhat obsessed with all things interior.
How and why did you end up becoming a product and Interior stylist?
I have always had a love for interior styling and when we decided to build our new home I set up an Instagram account to document the process. I started taking pictures of colour selection samples and varied images of our current home and was so surprised when people started following along and commenting on them. Small businesses then started reaching out asking me to style their products. 12 months later, my little hobby has turned into a fabulous & exciting new career. I have completed two home staging courses and have worked with so many amazing brands and businesses, including Clinique Australia, NIVEA, Sheridan Australia, Nair & Ecology homewares.
What do you love most about interior styling?
The entire process, from putting together a look, choosing & sourcing pieces and then seeing the vision come together.
We understand that you’re currently in the process of constructing your new home. How’s that going?
It is such a rollercoaster ride of emotions, certainly more challenging than I thought it would be. After purchasing our dream block, it took us 18 months to find a suitable builder and to design the layout. Once we had finished designing the home, it was on to selections, the fun part. Now we are getting ready for the slab to be poured. Fingers crossed, we won't have too many major issues along the way.
What sort of style are you going for in your new home?
The design of the home is based around indoor / outdoor living, with lots of natural light, open planned living areas as well as also having our own personal spaces. As anyone that follows my Instagram feed will know, I love minimal, monochrome tones with lots of different textures & I have definitely followed this theme on in our new home. I have used a lot of white and grey tones throughout, with one of my favourite features being the Carrara Marble bench tops & splashbacks. We chose a beautiful light grey, textured, semi-gloss tile for the living areas, wet areas & alfresco. I can’t wait to see it all come together.
What is your favourite part of your bedroom?
Definitely our bed.
What’s your secret to a restful night of sleep?
Definitely comfort, I think your bedroom should be a relaxing space, free from clutter and distractions.
What is the first thing that you look out for when you’re picking your bedding?
Firstly, colour followed very closely by the quality. Personally, I am not a fan of bright, colourful patterns, I am drawn to solid, neutral colours for bedding and like to add pops of colour and texture through the use of cushions & throws
What drew you to Jonquil’s sheets?
The beautiful style and classic design of the range.
Why did you pick these Jonquil colours for your bedroom?
After receiving the beautiful colour samples, I must admit it was a difficult choice between the white & the stone, in the end though, I decided on the stone for the duvet set and I absolutely love the colour.
What did you like most about Jonquil’s bedding?
Firstly, I have to acknowledge the incredible, Oscar worthy, packaging. It is one of the most beautifully presented packages I have ever received. I love the luxurious feel and impeccable quality of the organic cotton; they are divine to sleep in.
How would you describe your experience with Jonquils sheets?
From the wonderful customer service to the luxurious cotton, comfort and detailing of the bedding, I am absolutely thrilled and I will certainly be recommending the Jonquil bedding range to all of my clients.
